Yarn Bug Centerpiece
This bug is 10" high and makes a terrific table centerpiece for those troops with bigger ideas! Make a regular sized yarn bug for each scout. Put his name on it for place cards.

You need:

Instructions:

Make a pompon by wrapping yarn around the cardboard as least 200 times. Mix the yarn colors any way you would like. Cut a 9" piece of yarn and slide it under wrapped yarn. Tie tightly into a double knot. Turn floppy over and cut completely through yarn on this side. Turn yarn blob sideways and smooth down strands.

Ask on adult to slice off the bottom of the Styrofoam ball so it stands on end. Cover the top and sides of the ball with tacky glue. Separate the strands of the pompon to fit the Styrofoam ball up inside. Press pompon into place. Arrange yarn.

Print Pattern for Jumbo Hands and Cap and Pattern for Jumbo Bug Feet. Cut two hands out of blue foam. Cut two feet out of yellow foam. Glue the feet to the bottom of the styrofoam ball. Cut front piece of the hat out of yellow and diamond out of blue. Cut a piece of yellow foam 2½" x 9" for a den banner. Glue on your den numbers.   Bend fingers of the hands around the banner as shown in the photo above. Use glue gun to secure fingers. Cut pipe cleaner in half. Glue a half of pipe cleaner to the back of each hand. Bend pipe cleaner arms and poke them into the Styrofoam ball.

Use glue gun to glue the bottom edge of the yellow cap front to the blue cap. Glue the back top to the cap. Finish with blue diamond. Glue to cap to yarn bug's head. Glue on eyes.
