"I can use any and all ideas for empty baby food jars."


We received a terrific response for this question. Everybody had lots of ideas for empty jars. Snow globes and candles were the most
jar_animals_small.gif (7909 bytes)popular submissions. One of my favorite ideas comes from Lisa of Anniston, Alabama.  These cute animals are made by filling baby food jars with pompoms or cotton balls and decorating the outside to look like the animal's face. Cute!jar_moses_small.gif (4726 bytes)

Candles
"Put a small amount of sand in bottom, add wick, sea shells, etc. and then melt and pour in candle gel that has been colored and scented."

Mother's Joy Jars
"On strips of colored paper have the kids write things they love about their mother. Roll them around a pencil to curl and fill the jar with them. Cover the top with a round circle of fabric tied with a ribbon."

Valentine's Day Gifts
Fill with Hershey's Kisses. Glue on a note that said 'Chocolate is sweet, this is true, but for my valentine, I'd choose you!'  Cover the top with a round piece of tissue paper secured with an elastic."

Paint the outsides to look like pumpkins or snowman and use them for candy jars."

Emergency Sewing Kit
"Fill jar with assorted buttons, safety pins, a thimble and small spool of thread. Cut a piece of foam to the size of the lid, glue a piece of fabric over foam for a pin cushion. Decorate with lace or bric-brac."

Teddy Bear Gift Jar
Cut apart a small teddy bear - the baby food jar will become his belly, so keep the arms, legs and head intact. Glue the parts on the jar and fill with M&M's.

Snow Globe
Glue a small plastic figurine to the inside top of the lid. Add glitter, beads, or foil confetti. Fill the jar with equal parts water and corn syrup, add food coloring if desired. Seal the lid onto the jar using a watertight sealant. Close it up, leave overnight to dry.

Baby Food Jar Bunny
Cover the baby food jar with cotton balls. Attach wiggle eyes, small pom pom for the nose and a the big one for the tail. Shape the pipe cleaner into bunny ears. Hot glue to the lid. Place one last piece of cotton in between the ears.

Candle Holder
"Place a candle in the baby food jar. Set inside a larger jar or bowl. Place sand and seashells or colored water and stones in the larger jar."

Thanksgiving Place Cards
"Use brown craft foam make a turkey body and glue it on the front of the jar. Glue feathers to the back of the jar. Add the name of the guest to the turkey and fill the jar with candy."

Dandy Vases
"Glue half flat glass or plastic marbles randomly, or in patterns on the sides with clear contact waterproof cement. Turn the jar upside down and glue a row around the lip of the jar. Let dry. use to hold Dandelions your kids pick."

"Decorate the mouth of the jar with a ribbon that matches the bathroom and then use it as a toothbrush holder, Qtip holder or for tweezers and small scissors."

"Glue tiny flowers and a bit of moss to the inside of the lid. Put the lid back on and glue ribbon around the lid."

Fill jar with colored sand. Seal with white glue or hot glue. Let dry. Top with a tea light.

"Nail the covers of baby food jars to the underside of a cabinet or shelf, fill the jar with whatever you like. Once jar is filled just screw the jar in place."

"Fill them with potpourri. Cover the top with netting and then accent with a pretty ribbon and small silk flowers."

Snow Globes
"Glue a small figurine or designer rubber eraser to the inside of the lid. Fill the jar almost to the top with water and glitter and a little liquid Glycerin to make the sparkles fall more slowly. Glue top closed."

"Paint the jar brown, let dry. Paint face on the front of the jar. When finished place a votive candle inside."

"Paint the jar with colored nail polish. While wet, roll the jar in salt. Tie a ribbon around the top, drop in a votive candle. The salt causes the light to scatter, making for a very pretty light."

Easter Jars
Put some Easter grass in the bottom of a clean baby food jar. Fill with jelly beans or other Easter candy. Attach painted lid and tie a ribbon around the neck.

Air Freshener
Partially fill jars with tissue or shredded paper. Place a mini bar of scented soap on top and cover loosely with more tissue. Place a piece of netting on top and tie down with ribbon.

Christmas Decoration
Stack the jars to form a Christmas tree. Glue n place then put garland and lights in each jar for color. Decorate the outside with miniature balls & lace.
