We received a lot of ideas from our readers for egg carton flowers, caterpillars, and bugs. We also received some more unusual ideas like this egg carton cross submitted by Linda of Green Bay, WI

And this wacky idea for warty egg carton masks submitted anonymously. Many readers also wrote to remind us that our yarn bugs can use egg carton sections instead of Styrofoam balls.

Caterpillars
"Cut in half the long way. Poke two holes in one end. Push through pipe cleaner for antennae. Paint."

Valentine Idea
--Cut the sections apart and turn them so the hump is up and the open end in down. Paint and decorate. Glue a small craft bee on it. Add a note that says 'BEE my Valentine!'"

Advent Calendars
"Glue two egg cartons (24 sections) to a piece of cardboard. Put a sweet or toy in each of the 24 parts. Cover the whole thing in tissue paper. Put a numbered sticker over each section. Decorate. During advent push your finger through the tissue paper to get the treat".

Finger Puppet Pigs
"Turn egg carton section on end. Glue on snout to front, add ears from construction paper and wiggle eyes. Put on your finger and put on a puppet show."

Christmas Tree Decoration
"Cut egg cartons into sections. The top row will have one section, the 2nd row two sections, etc. The last row will have six sections. Use one, the two sections for the tree base. Glue onto cardboard. Tie a piece of yarn around it to hang. Wrap garland around it to cover gaps in rows and decorate."

Mancala Game
"Leave the lid on so it can be stored without spilling. Cut two sections off an extra egg carton. Staple one to each end of the egg carton. This is the 'bank'. Put four buttons, dried beans, or marbles in each cup, except for the bank."

Heart-Shaped Wreath
"Cut three or four egg cartons into sections.  Paint the outsides of each section half red and half pink. Let dry. Bend a wire coat hanger into a heart shape and carefully slide each piece onto the wire -- poking through the sides of the section so the bubble shape will be face-out."

Seed Starter
"Fill the individual cups with a little dirt, plant seeds and water as usual (not too much or the carton with start to fall apart). When you're ready to plant outdoors, just pop the whole thing in your garden and the carton will disintegrate on it's own."

"Separate two cups and glue together to make a body (like a ball shape) the wide cut areas are glued together. Paint and decorate as animals. Use glue on eyes, foam ears, foam tails etc."

Campfire Fire Starters
"Fill the egg cartons with wood shaving (such as bedding for animals) and pour melted wax on top. Once hardened, you can break off 1 or 2 cups, and use to light your fire."

Animal Masks
"Cut a small paper plate in half to form an animal face. Curve the cut slightly in the middle to go over the nose and at the edges. Make holes for eye. Attach egg carton to form a pig's snout or a wolf's nose, etc. Paint. Attach elastic so that the mask goes round the face."
